The perks of watching a chick flick By Ting Lim

There are some movies that I remember fondly of, movies like 'Lion King', 'Free Willy' and 'Two Girls and One Cup'; movies that left me feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside, just like a rattlesnake bite. I take comfort in watching them from time to time. It is like taking a stroll down memory lane, it brings me back to the time when I was crying at the beginning of 'Lion King' or to the time when I was obsessed with swimming in an aquarium after watching 'Free Willy'.

I have been watching a lot of movies lately and I got to tell you, apart from my burgeoning bandwidth usage and waist line, life has been shit, I mean great. One of my recent favourites would have to be 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'. The movie is about an introvert freshman who is going through a tough time at school and is befriended by two seniors who helped him through. It is a typical teen movie with a cliche ending but I like watching movies like that from time to time. I like feeling good at the end of a movie, especially after devouring a barrel of salted popcorns.

For some bizarre reason, the movie got me thinking about my time at high school. I was never the popular kid. I was the quiet one with an uncompromising stare and a shovel covered in blood, the only normal person in school.
